Beauty School – All about Hyaluronic Acid

Today I’m going to give you a brief overview on hyaluronic acid. In this industry of ever growing beauty products. The ingredients are becoming more and more must-have. The problem is that we see these fantastic chemical names and assume this means it must be good.

Obviously not all chemicals are good, and of course they all serve different purposes.

I’ve decided to try and break down these walls and help you understand which ingredients will be of benefit to you. And what results you should expect to see. Hence beauty school. I’ve started this whole series on here explaining to you a little about each of these chemicals and additives.

What Is Hyaluronic Acid?

Your instant thought seeing the word ‘acid’ might be to run away and hide. Don’t be fooled by this. Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a water holding molecule which our bodies naturally produce. It is a molecule which binds readily to moisture and helps keep the skin plump and hydrated.

HA is a favourite of mine because of my naturally dry-combination skin. Dry and thirsty skin loves this ingredient. This tiny acid molecule is capable of holding 1000x its own weight in water. Hence why you see it plastered all over moisturiser labels.

Why Do We Need It If Our Bodies Produce It Already?

The average human body has approximately 15g of hyaluronic acid. Approximatey 1/3 of that degrades and is synthesised daily. Hyaluronic acid helps increase skin hydration and the production of collagen maintaining skin elasticity.

As we age our body produces less HA hence anti aging products packed full of the stuff. It also has the ability to fight free radicals and even had antibacterial and anti inflammatory properties helping wounds heal quicker too. Sounds like magic, right? More about free radicals another day.

How Do We Use It and Gain The Most From It?

So as some of you might know often platic surgeons use HA to plump an area of skin, but there is no need for surgery or injections! Check out эпикантопластика if you are interested in making your eye look bigger.

Choose a good serum or moisturiser that contains HA or sodium hyaluronate in the ingredients. they all work in a similar way. Then start reaping the benefits with softer, smoother and firmer skin.
