It is pretty much common knowledge that: 1. I love skincare and 2. That you should change up your skincare regime as the seasons change. Here I am going to show you what is in my Current skincare routine.
Why Should you switch up your skincare regime?
There are key reasons indicating a change in your routine is needed. i.e. you’re not seeing results, you’re too dry, you’re too oily. Perhaps you are breaking out. Alternatively you may be experiencing some irritation or redness. All of these reasons are key indicators that something needs to change.
When to change your skincare routine?
Firstly, if you are having any of the issues mentioned above, it is time to switch something. It doesn’t need to be the whole routine, it can be just one product. It needn’t be expensive either!
I like to change my routine as the seasons change. I find that during the colder months I become very dry. During these months I wear a heavier moisturiser during the day. I also wear a richer face oil at night. These are all because of the added hydration I see and the prevention of cracked, sore and dehydrated skin.
So what is my current routine?
Both in the morning and the evening I do the three main steps: cleanse, tone, moisturise. I use slightly different products in the morning to the evening. Mainly because I often like to wear makeup during the day and I like to have a more matte skin finish.
Cleanse
In the morning I prefer to use a gentle exfoliating cleanser which is also nourishing. At the moment I am using the Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing balm.
If you are on more of a budget I would recommend the Vichy Purete Thermale fresh cleansing gel. This is perfect for dry and sensitive skin types. Yes I am a huge fan of Vichy skincare. It is a good price for high quality products, if you want to learn more about this brand I have a blog post dedicated to their skincare range.
At night I like to double cleanse. I will soon be writing a post about double cleansing, so keep your eyes peeled for that. But I personally like to do my first cleanse using either the Emma hardie and mentioned followed by the Elemis Pro-collagen cleansing balm if i’m not wearing makeup or SPF. If I have been I do my first cleanse using the Body shop camomile Fresh Micellar cleansing water followed by the Elemis Pro-collagen cleansing balm.
The Elemis pro-collagen cleansing balm has been a firm favourite of mine for around 6 months now, you can find my blog post about it here. Or if you would like to check out my new youtube channel I also have a video where it features too.
Again if you’re on a budget I would do my first cleanse with the body shop cleansing water and follow up using the vichy cleansing gel mentioned above.
Toner
If you were to skip one step in your skincare routine, it would probably be this. I think a lot of people don’t realise that a toner is not just a calming solution for the skin but is also a gentle exfoliant and helps refine pores.
I Prefer to use either the Pixi rose tonic (which is also budget friendly) or the clarins toner with iris. These are perfect both morning and night and the clarins one is perfect for you if you are break out or acne prone.
Moisturise
This is the step which changes for me between the seasons. I prefer a more lightweight moisturiser during the spring/summer months.
I am currently loving the My clarins refreshing moisturiser and my first love is the clinique moisture surge 72 hour auto-replenishing hydrator. Both of these are more like a gel-cream formula and I would say are perfect for anyone.
Eye creams for me are something I add in the moisturise step. I think if you are younger and under 25 I would say this step isn’t completely necessary for you. Those of you over 25, like myself; I think it is a good precautionary measure. My favourite eye cream, which has always remained within the top 2 eye creams for me is the Clinique all about eyes eye cream.
