Why Double Cleansing is crucial for glowing skin

Why Double Cleansing is crucial for glowing skin

Every great skincare routine starts with a good cleanse. Gone are the days where a single cleanse is enough. I am going to give you the low down as to why a double cleanse is needed! Whether you like a cleansing balm, milk or even a powder cleanser. They are all the key to the ultimate glowing skin and perfect makeup base.

So what is double cleansing and why should you do it?

The double cleanse is exactly how it sounds. It is starting off with an initial cleanse and following up with a second. A single cleanse is like shampooing your hair with a shower cap on. It just isn’t doing the job.

If you live in the city and are surrounded by ever increasing levels of pollution and wearing increasingly longer lasting makeup. It is crucial to remove all of the dirt, pollution and final traces of makeup to achieve skin perfection.

Double Cleansing Twice daily

I cleanse both morning and night. Your morning cleanse helps remove dead skin cells and any residual sebum which has built up during the night while you were sleeping. This is why in the morning I prefer to use a more gentle exfoliating cleanser. You should double cleanse both morning and night. I use the Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm.

At night the double cleanse will remove any dirt, pollution and residual makeup, this is why using an oil based cleanser is great. The oil binds to the dirt, sebum and makeup and lifts it off with ease. I use the Elemis pro-collagen cleansing balm. The second cleanse then helps further clean the skin, rebalance and hydrate the skin again. You can either repeat your cleanse with the same cleanser or follow up with something different.

Why Use a different cleanser as your second cleanse at night?

The second cleanse in the double cleansing process, at night is the one which you choose to be most specifically tailored to your skin’s needs. I like to use something rich and hydrating because I have a dry/combination skin type. If you have an oily skin type you may prefer something more lightweight and fresher.

It can be confusing with so many different cleansers on the market to work out exactly what works best for your skin. It is a game of trial and error, working out what your skin type is and understanding your skin’s needs. If in doubt head to your nearest skincare counter and they will be sure to point you in the right direction. If you want to know more about my current skincare routine you can find that here.

I like to go to my nearest Kiehls counter, because they provide you will a full skin analysis for free and help you work out what you need. You can find my blog post regarding kiehls here.
