Everyone who loves getting their nails done has heard about the infamous OPI nail lacquer. I love getting my nails done, and I often go to the salon and have gel polish applied every month. However if you don’t have the money or are not able to attend there is an alternative. Here are my top tips to achieving a beautiful gel manicure at home. Best of all its easier on your bank balance.
Get a Perfect Gel Manicure Base
You’ve all heard the phrase if you fail to prepare you prepare to fail? Well it is true with your home gel manicure, that if you don’t prep your nails prior to the lacquer the colour will not stay put for as long as you had hoped.
I usually Buff my natural nails with a nail buffer and push back my cuticles to start. Then I go in with the OPI Pro Stay base coat.
(although I must admit I allowed my nails to grow too long and had to further file them down before I applied step two, the colour)
Add Your Colour
Picking a colour can be difficult there are so many to choose from, just get them all and choose your colour based on your mood. That’s my advice. The colour I have in the image above is called ‘Aurora Berry-alis’ apply two thin coats of colour for an evenly coloured layer.
I also love the shade ‘Reykjavik Has all the Hot Spots’ which is a gorgeous blush pink shade.
Make sure you have waited at least 30 minutes after applying the base coat before applying your gel lacquer colour.
Top Coat
Protect your colour and make it last by using Pro stay Brilliant Gloss Top Coat. This top coat cures in natural daylight and leave a glossy protective coating.
The finished result is a gorgeous gel manicure which can last up to 10 days. Depending on what you’re doing and how often you have your hands in water or if you’re swimming etc. If you want to prevent the gel from lifting you can find my top tips here.
